Day one of my 1980 Volkswagen Rabbit rebuild. My brother and I charged the battery that had been sitting in the car for some years, and hooked it up to the rabbit's corroded battery cables. Much to our surprise the engine turned over, however the electrical system was short circuiting somewhere causing smoke to emit from the positive terminal on the battery and the battery cable's connection to the starter.
